FSMA and PCQI Training
The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was implemented in order to change the nation’s food safety regulatory system to one that focuses on the prevention of food safety hazards. Its purpose is to systematically put effectively proven measures in place to prevent food contamination or cross contact with allergens. FSMA regulation covers several rules including Produce Safety, FSVP, Intentional Adulteration and Risk – Based Preventive Controls for Human Food. Preventive Controls for Human Food Rule was one of the first FSMA rules and requires that all businesses that pack, hold, process or manufacture food have a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual available to conduct certain food safety tasks required by the rule. PCQI is responsible for development of risk based food safety plan and implementation and maintenance of the food safety system. Here at BD Food Safety Consultants LLC, we offer FSPCA’s PCQI training courses. Successfully completing this course is the best way to become PCQI and meet the requirements of the regulation 21 CFR 117. This is standardized curriculum recognized by FDA as adequate to meet the requirements of 21 CFR 117.180 for Preventive Controls Qualified Individuals.
Under this regulation PCQI is someone who successfully completed this PCQI Training course or is otherwise qualified through job experience. Please note that job experience to qualified an individual as a PCQI must be equivalent to knowledge received during this course. This part of the regulation is subjective and to avoid any regulatory issues it is strongly recommended that personnel involved in food safety take and successfully complete this course.
