PCQI Certificate Course
PCQI Training is FSPCA’s 2.5 Day curriculum recognized by FDA. Preventive Controls training is required for certain individuals at companies that manufacture, process, pack or hold human or animal food. The PCQI certificate earned by course participants indicates your recognition as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual to conduct or oversee certain activities specified in Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation (21 CFR 117). PCQI Certificate Recognized by FDA
Curriculum for that course was developed by the FSPCA and is recognized by FDA as adequate to meet regulatory requirements for PCQI. This training course is the best way to become a PCQI as required by the rule. BD Food Safety Consultants LLC offers instructor led, FSPCA PCQI course in our Training Center in Chicago / Naperville and in an online live format. Training Locations & Times
Chicagoland – BD Learning Center – 600 W 5th Ave, Suite B, Naperville, IL 60563
20-hour course schedule: Days 1 & 2 at 8 am CST– 5 pm CST, Day 3 at 8 am CST – 12:00 pm CST. Version 2.0 of the curriculum is 23 hours with Day 3 ending at 3:00 pm CST.
Online Live Course conducted via Zoom. Online Class Times are in Central Standard Time.
Pricing & Course Details
Price per person: $699, (3% off on 4 and 5% off on 5 participants registrations) – Price includes FSPCA certificate fees. Hard copies of training materials are provided to participants at no cost in classroom courses only. PCQI 3 Day Courses (Version 2.0) are $799 per person.
Important update – Starting March 2025, all PCQI courses will be conducted according to version 2.0 of the standardized curriculum. Class times will be extended to 23 hours instead of the current 20 hours.

Learn More About Online Live Course Criteria
- Course Access – You will receive a webpage link to Zoom or GoToMeeting. Please follow instructions to access the course.
WE ASK THAT YOU LOG IN 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE START OF THE CLASS TO ALLOW EXTRA TIME FOR CORRECTING POTENTIAL ISSUES.
- Visual contact during the course
FSPCA requires that Instructors always maintain visual contact with participants throughout the course.
System allows for webcam sharing and this function will be activated at the start of the class. Please ensure your webcam is working properly before the class. You can test your webcam by clicking on the link below:

No more than 2 participants use one device (laptop, computer). All participants must be clearly visible in the webcam.
- Audio connectivity

We Strongly recommend using a headset to minimize background noise. Participants will work in breakout sessions with other team members on completing group exercises. Please ensure you are in a quiet area with no external noise or other people talking.
- Participation
FSPCA’s attendance Policy is very strict. It is required that course participants attend the full length of the course. Participants arriving late, leaving early or being in and out throughout the course will not receive their certificates. Late arrivals to the course will result in registration cancelation.
- Successful completion of the course and work evaluation
There will be no pre and post assessment. Successful completion of the course is determined based on the attendance – see 4) Participation – and completing Group Exercises. Participants will fill out Exercise Workbook electronically and share their work results during the class. Additionally, at the end of each day, participants will email the instructor completed exercises.

FSPCA Certificates will be emailed to participants at the end of the course.
- Online Live Session Recordings
As a reminder FSPCA’s Online Live Courses are recorded per FSPCA’s requirements. Recordings are made solely for Lead Instructor evaluation by FSPCA and are not shared with any other entity.
- ID Verification
Per FSPCA requirements, all participants must provide picture identification prior to the class. You may scan and email a copy of your Driver’s License; State issued ID or other picture documents or present it to the camera at the beginning of the course. BD Food Safety Consultants do not store any of the personal or sensitive information (ref. privacy policy on www.bdfoodsafety.com).
Private PCQI Training Session
BD Food Safety Consultants offers private PCQI Training sessions either on-site at your company, selected locations, online via zoom, or in our Training Center in Chicagoland in Naperville, Illinois. You can have between 6 and 15 participants in a private PCQI course. For in – person classes, training materials are provided in hard copy. Bart Dobek was recognized for training 1000 or more participants, cumulatively in the four FSPCA training curricula with FSPCA certificates issued. This recognition was presented at the 2024 FSPCA Annual Conference on November 19th 2024. What Does PCQI Training in Chicago, and Online Include?
When you sign up for our PCQI food safety training in Chicago, or online, you will learn how to develop, implement and maintain a food safety plan compliant with Preventive Controls for Human Food regulation. The course materials are designed to meet training requirements for a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual under Title 21 CFR Part 117.180. During training, you will learn about:
- Learning about the difference between HACCP and Preventive Controls
- Performing hazard analysis of particular types of food
- Determining preventive controls for process, allergens, sanitation and supply chain preventive controls
- Learning about management components for preventive controls such as parameters and values, monitoring, corrective actions, verification and validation procedures.
- Determining required validation procedures
- Creating supporting documentation that meets food safety record requirements
- Hands on exercises to prepare learners to the role of PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual).
Who Should Attend PCQI Training Courses?
Individuals responsible for food safety and participating in food safety-related tasks should acquire PCQI course. The Food Safety Modernization Act requires companies that manufacture, hold, process or pack food to have a PCQI available. The best way to become a PCQI and to prepare for compliance with the FSMA is to take FSPCA’s Preventive Controls for Human Food training that is recognized by FDA.
Where Are PCQI Training Classes Held?
We host on-site PCQI training near Chicago at the BD Training Centre in Naperville, IL, and online via zoom during various times of the year. You can find a detailed list of courses available below. The 20-hour course extends over two and a half days. We offer on-site training courses for groups with more than seven participants nationwide.

Our PCQI training courses are registered with FSPCA and follow standardized curriculum recognized by FDA as adequate to meet the requirements of Preventive Controls for Human Food rule.
